PRACTICAL VFX

I got to light and cam op on Army of the Doomstar’s ink tank photography in July 2022 with Brendon & Jeff Small. This consisted of two layers of water, freshwater on top of saltwater and making sure they don’t mix—you can see the horizon line that divides the two layers in the video as the bag/tarp is slowly removed. From there ink or paint like Tempera and various mixes and pigments. We shot a total of three aquariums worth of ink, and after shooting in 4K 60 we were able to get about three hours of ever-changing and vibrant ink tank photography that we could composite with for some of our most visually incredible scenes most notably ‘Song of Salvation.

We also shot a bunch of greenscreen footage to use as Bakshi-style silhouettes and crowd fills that you may catch throughout the film as well as animation references for various action poses such as Murderface’s possession and flight from Deus Keep.
